Literature Text

Nieven is a fairy demi-god that rules over legends and lore--in fact, some scholars have argued that the famed "Song for Erinnor" is actually addressing both Nieven and Erinnor.

The story cycle chronicling his adventures is divided into three parts: his childhood, his coming of age, and his great journey, when he was hailed by all the races of Thiannon as a hero.

Arran is one of the very few minstrels that has ever told the complete cycle in one sitting, something he will only do once a year on the Day of Awakening (the equivalent to Easter in Thiannon.)

True to his style, Arran's version of Nieven's story is filled with song--he has even sang the complete story. But he mainly prefers to tell the story, with Jelan in the role of Nieven.

While it is generally agreed Nieven is a demi-god, there is some debate over whether or not he actually existed in the realm of mortals.

Five schools of thought exist:

--Nieven did, in fact, exist in the realm of mortals, as tales of his deeds still continue to be written.

--He did exist, but only as a mage's or sage's familiar

--He did exist, but he was a half fey, and instead of dying, rose to the heavens.

--Nieven did not exist, his life and adventures were all a dream

--Nieven did not exist, he was merely a minstrel's invention.

The Trio believes Nieven exists and went on his journey, as evidence has been found in Thiannon confirming many of the events in the story
