The Adventures of the Champions of Arcion

Episode 0: The Adventures Begin

Thunder rumbles as a black haired boy tiptoes into a back room of the house, which is used as a storage room. "There has to be something in here we can do, since there's nothing on TV and I don't want to risk damaging the game consoles." he muses before turning on a flashlight to see in a dark corner better.

After rummaging through old record albums, boxes filled with old toys marked "TO GIVE", and some cookbooks, an orange haired girl finds a box with a picture of a knight, a ranger, and a wizard facing off against a Charizard in a fantastic dungeon. "Chambers and Charizards?"

Some giggles get her attention. "Your dad used to be very into that, Ash; but he doesn't get to play as often now..." Delia muses as she arrives to take the boxes of old toys out to the garage. "He may even teach you three how to play if you ask."

"Well! My current Chambers and Charizards set is still here." a black haired man smiles as Misty gives him the box.

"Will you teach us how to play, Dad?" Ash asks. "Misty, Brock, and I don't have anything better to do..."

"Besides, if you do find a group to play with again, you won't be so out of practice, Taran." Delia agrees.

Taran smiles as he remembers Delia joining in a few of the game sessions of yore. "I still remember the elven wizard you made--Arithas, I believe it was."

Delia nods "Maxed her out at Legendary lv. 20."

"Which would be equal to about lv. 60 or 70 in a console game." Taran explains as he brings the box, a box full of dice and figurines, and a plastic tub filled with books--the rule book, and hundreds of adventures--into the rec room, where a card table is set up. "But first things first...we need to create your characters. If you need help, let me know."

Ash studies the blank character sheet Taran has given him. "Let's see here...."

"So...many...numbers..." Misty groans at the bewildering array of stats.

Brock, meanwhile, calmly fills out the sheet, using the open rulebook as a reference. "Okay...I think I did this right..." he muses some moments later as he gives Taran his completed character sheet to inspect.

Taran studies Brock's character sheet, then smiles as he gives it back."Welcome to the game, Minstrel Larkin."

"Clever name..." Misty grins as she hands Taran her sheet.

"Welcome to the game, Dame Meri of Azulan." Taran replies as he gives Misty back her sheet.

"Did you pick Paladin or Knight?" Ash wonders.

"Didn't the Dame give you a clue?" Misty snaps back. "I thought it'd be fun to play a knight my first time out."

"That, and there's also the Magic Knight, which combines the strength of a warrior with the magic of a wizard." Taran adds. "But they're not recommended for new players unless you really feel confident."

"Can wizards wield a bow, Dad?" Ash asks as he works to finish his character sheet.

"While the rulebook suggests weapons for a class, there's not really that many hard and fast rules--although some weapons will be harder to wield by certain classes." Taran explains as he checks the rulebook. "So yes, if you gave your wizard a good dexterity score, he can wield a bow with no problem."

"Good!" Ash quickly writes in his wizard's name, then hands it to Taran.

Taran checks over Ash's hastily scribbled in writing. "May want to move a few strength points into dexterity if your wizard's wielding a bow, but other than that, welcome to the game, Aldaron the Red."

"Got it." Ash makes a few changes to his character sheet as Taran gets a few simple adventures in order...
When Ash discovers Taran's massive Chambers and Charizards set one rainy day, he, Misty and Brock get a crash course in tabletop roleplaying
