Tarina's Treasure

Having diver's certification has its advantages.

Brock and I have been diving together ever since I passed a diving class, and I've made some great memories on dive trips.

But nothing can top my first time diving alone.

We went out to a lake by Pewter City for the big dive--it wasn't too deep (since both Brock and my dive teacher agreed I'm not ready to go very deep by myself yet), and not too cold, even in my gear.

So after checking everything and making sure my built in communicator was working, I was given my objective: descend to the bottom of the lake, observe the wildlife down there, and come back up. If I found anything interesting or I needed help, Brock had packed his own gear, as well.

Brock buried a radar tracker in my fur (so they could see where I was back on the boat), and then I took the plunge into the water.

A few curious Goldeens swam by me as I made my way to the bottom, but once I landed, I was awed by all the seaweed on the lakebed.

I spent a while exploring it all before I saw something brown buried in the sand. After struggling to get it open, I gasped--it was filled with gold coins, jewels, and all kinds of rare and precious items!

"Li'l Chu calling Pewter Song, I found buried treasure down here!" I relayed back to the boat.

"Really?" Brock's voice crackled back.

"Yeah--we'll have to bring it up and have someone look at it!" I explained.

There was a little talking in the background as Brock and the crew debated what to do next, then Brock returned. "Stay right where you are--I'll be joining you shortly, okay?" Brock told me. "Pewter Song out."

I found a glass shard in the sand not far from the treasure chest, and once I heard the splash of Brock diving in, I used the sunshine's reflection to show him where I was.

Once we got my discovery safely aboard the boat, I was granted permission to go alone up to 50 feet deep.

My teacher says when I get a little bigger I can go farther--but until then, I can look for treasure in other lakes and oceans!
