Lorica winced when she received her etude for the week. "Not the high F# again..." It had been hard enough just producing the note in question, even after weeks of practice.

"Remember what I said when I first introduced that note?" Arien reminded her." If you're struggling with a high note--try to play it softly, and then gradually increase the volume, remembering what a clean note at that volume feels like."

She added "Furthermore, a high note does not mean a higher volume of air--you just need more air through a smaller space."

An idea occurred to her. "In fact, let's try using the notes around the high F# to see if we can ease into it."

"Good idea!" Lorica smiled--maybe this week's lesson wouldn't be so bad after all!
