Story 3: How Fuyu Was Slain

"In a certain land, the people lived in fear because of a Braviary that would fly over the mountains every winter." Teresa began. "It showed no mercy to wild Pokemon or domestic Pokemon, and many feared their Pokemon would be prey for him. Eventually the people named the Braviary Fuyu, because of his appearing in the winter."

Fearful whispers filled the air as the children speculated about what Fuyu was doing there to begin with. "But there was one man who genuinely cared for the mountain Pokemon--we'll call him Makoto, which means 'sincerity'" Teresa went on. "Every winter he kept watch for Fuyu, and managed to keep the mighty Braviary away by throwing rocks at it."

"One day, early in the spring, a girl named Hikari came to Makoto's house." she continued as some teachers quieted the chatter. "She told him she had lost her home and her family had fled because of Fuyu, and she was traveling to a safe place in search of a job. Makoto invited her inside, and allowed her to stay for the night."

"Aw"s go up at this. "Makoto enjoyed Hikari's company so much, he offered her a job as a servant." Teresa went on. "Hikari accepted, and it was not long before they fell in love. They married within the year, but though their life together was very happy, Hikari noticed that every morning, before Makoto left for the fields, he would stop and look at a bow hanging on the wall. When she asked why, he told her that he longed to take up archery again. When Hikari asked why he had stopped, Makoto explained he felt guilty over taking an innocent life, even though he had once been a master archer."

Excited whispers filled the air as Teresa retrieved the prop bow and the thirty arrows. "Winter came, and with it fears and speculation as to when Fuyu would come. Hikari asked about Fuyu, and Makoto told her all the terrifying stories about how it could capture even a Rhydon, and if there were no Pokemon as its prey, it would even attack people."

Gasps went up as Teresa intoned "One night, Hikari vanished without a trace. Fearing for his beloved's life, Makoto searched everywhere, but didn't find her."

She smiled for a moment, as if to silently reassure the children all was well--and reveal who Hikari really was. "Just as he was about to give up, he found Hikari in a field, but as he approached, he was stunned to find out that his beloved Hikari was really the holy Delphox Kitsune in disguise!"

Cheers filled the auditorium as Teresa went on "Kitsune thanked Makoto for his love and kindness, and gave him a quiver full of 30 arrows fletched with Moltres' feathers. Kitsune explained that Fuyu was as hated in heaven as he was on the earth, and the arrows, called Phoenix Arrows, were the only way to defeat him once and for all."

The audience watches as Teresa retrieves one of the arrows. "Makoto promised Kitsune that if he defeated Fuyu, he would take up his bow again in her honor." she explained as she readied her shot at an offstage target. "Kitsune led Makoto to the mountain pass, where he readied his shot. Just as he heard Fuyu's wings approaching, he fired..."

She then fires her shot, a ting confirming she hit the target. "...hitting Fuyu clean through the heart."

Thunderous cheers fill the air at Fuyu's demise. "Kitsune thanked Makoto, and told him she would be watching over him as she departed for the heavens." Teresa concluded. "Makoto was hailed as a hero and made good on his promise--every time he made a shot, he would thank Kitsune for giving him the courage to face and defeat Fuyu."

Applause and cheers went up as Teresa took a bow....
Teresa tells a gentler tale with elements of adventure about a man who encounters Kitsune, is inspired to take up archery again, and uses his skills to defeat a Braviary
