Welcome to KIM, EmeraldRose.

PewterSong: hi
PewterSong: did you get to pick your instrument today?
EmeraldRose: yeah
EmeraldRose: got to try all of them
EmeraldRose: even the mighty tuba
EmeraldRose: my top three were tuba, flute, or saxophone
EmeraldRose: but they had plenty of flutes and saxophones
EmeraldRose: so they put me on euphonium in preparation for switching to tuba if I want to when I get to middle school.
EmeraldRose: can't you play one of those?
PewterSong: yes
PewterSong has sent EmeraldRose the picture "PSEuph.jpg"
EmeraldRose: Ooh, yours is a silver one!
PewterSong: i took a slightly different version of the path you want to take
PewterSong: started on trombone
PewterSong: then they had a shortage of tubas
PewterSong: so they put me on euph in hopes I would step in and move up to tuba.
PewterSong: but I grew to love the euph's sound so much
PewterSong: I stuck with it
PewterSong: it wasn't too big a switch
PewterSong: just had to translate slide positions to valve fingerings.
EmeraldRose: give me a set of valves over a slide any day
PewterSong: valves makes some ornamentation a lot easier
PewterSong: but on a trombone you can do what's called a lip trill
PewterSong: easy way to wow an audience
EmeraldRose: i bet
EmeraldRose: so anyway, i'm going through the famous Marotta etudes
PewterSong: (meant for trombone, but often done on euph as well)
EmeraldRose: I'm struggling on #2
EmeraldRose: Either I go too slow or rush
EmeraldRose: and those clusters of quick notes trip me up
PewterSong: Hm...
PewterSong: Rather than me trying to explain it to you over the IM
PewterSong: What I can do is make you an "inspiration recording" of me playing it
PewterSong: so you can hear what it should sound like
EmeraldRose: sure!
EmeraldRose: Mom's calling for dinner
PewterSong: I'll be making your inspiration recording while you eat dinner, okay?
EmeraldRose: ok
EmeraldRose is away.
PewterSong is away.
[An hour or so later...]
EmeraldRose: mm, good meatloaf.
PewterSong has sent EmeraldRose the audio file "PSMarotta02.mp3"
PewterSong has sent EmeraldRose the text file "EtudetipsMarotta02.txt"
EmeraldRose: What's the text file for?
PewterSong: some tips and advice on playing this etude well
EmeraldRose: Ah, ok
EmeraldRose: oh wow!
EmeraldRose: your version sounds so pretty!
PewterSong: That came from lots of diligent practice.
EmeraldRose: I'm gonna go practice right now!
PewterSong: Just listen to that when you're feeling discouraged.
PewterSong: and don't be afraid to record yourself.
EmeraldRose: ok
EmeraldRose: I kinda have to make a recording for my lessons at school
EmeraldRose: but I'll get you listen to it before I turn it in.
PewterSong: ok
