Serena woke up the next morning groggy. Gah, I heard that song in my dream again... she grumbled to herself as she climbed from her bed.

Fennekin gave an interested whine as Serena trudged to the bathroom to get ready for the day. "You remember seeing that one movie with the trombone player on an island?" she asked as she brushed the bedhead from her hair. Fennekin nodded. "One of the songs he played in that movie has haunted me for years."

Suddenly, something occurred to her Wait a minute...Brock plays trombone too, and he has likely played that same melody!

Fennekin yipped when she saw the smile on her master's face. "That's right--the person that knows what that song is is literally across the hall! We're gonna get this mystery solved once and for all!

Later, in Brock's Closet...

"So, a trombone melody from a movie that you also don't know the name of." Brock mused. "Well, start by telling me what you DO remember from the movie."

"I remember it was about this guy and a girl on an island looking for a Pyroar that lived on the island...and it was sacred to the native islanders." Serena explained. "The guy and the girl were trying to protect this Pyroar from poachers, if I remember right. Every time there was a lull in the action, the guy would be playing his trombone in a misty clearing."

"What you describe sounds like the old movie 'Pyroar in the Mist'." Brock smiled. "One of Misty's and my favorites because of its adventurous plot, and Misty likes the traditional costumes and the music. Ash doesn't mind it either--as it is funny too, so we all try to catch it if the Classic Movie Network decides to show it."

"Well, that identifies the movie, now see if you can identify the one trombone melody from the movie that's haunted me for years..." Serena continued. "It's towards the beginning of the movie, and the guy is practicing in the clearing so he doesn't disturb the girl, and as he is playing this melody--which you never hear completely--he finds out he has attracted some Litleos."

"If you can sing a few bars, it might jog my memory." Brock grinned as he wrote on some music staff paper.

"Okay...it goes La la, la-la-la-la li la, la li, la la la la, la-la... Serena sang, singing the melody she remembered an octave above.

A huge smile formed on Brock's face. "I know that melody! Farone #4--one of the most recognizable trombone etudes, actually." he mused. "Working on a trumpet transcription so Ash can play it--he heard me practicing it and asked to learn it, so I decided to make a trumpet version."

He got up from the table. "But I will grant your wish of hearing the whole thing as it is meant to be played--so give me a few minutes to warm up, and I'll play it for you."
When Serena tries to figure out a melody from a movie from long ago, Brock reveals it was actually a trombone etude, and offers to play the complete melody for her (after showing her he was in the process of transcribing it for trumpet so Ash could play it)

I'm so glad she got that figured out! I hate it when something bugs me and I never find out the information about it!:D
