Kide are a magical type of crystal found all across the islands of Asahi. While no one knows where they actually came from, it is a common belief that they were a gift from Kandra, and only her chosen ones, the iksas, can inflate them and unleash the magical power inside.

An uninflated kide is useless, but when it is inflated, not only is it pleasing to look at, but it also creates a beneficial effect--be this one household, a town, or even a whole island--this is why they are also blown during religious services

There are two types of kide--fashe, which are made to burst on purpose, and kate, which behave like a normal balloon. Fashe's powers are unleashed when they burst, and kate when it is completely inflated. However, since it often takes so long to inflate a kide, when they are used in battle, they are used as defensive magic that is prepared well in advance, or powerful offensive magic that takes a long time to cast, in contrast to more common magic, which is a point and shoot affair.

Each kide has a specific name, which is often a hint as to what kind of magic it holds. Some common ones iksas are seen inflating are Sky and Clouds (protection for the entire island), Perfect Day (good weather), and Sunrise (a kide done as part of meditation)

To inflate a kide, an iksa takes her place at a platform and blows through the kimya, which transfers the air into the kide without any means of a hose. Once an iksa starts blowing, she can't stop, or the kide will rapidly deflate and she will have to start completely over. However, she does get a clue when the kide is full or close to bursting--it will glow.

It typically takes an experienced iksa about 1 to 3 hours to inflate a kide, depending on the kide's size and shape
An explanation about kide, their religious importance, and their connection to magic in this world
