"Lana, please advance." the referee called, prompting some applause as I made my way to the firing line of the sixth lane.

After a few moments of setting up a new target, I heard a groundsman call "Clear!" to the referee, prompting me to cradle my tubow in "ready" position as they hurried off.

"Ready!" the referee called, making the crowd go silent as I prepared to fire.

After a moment or two to aim, I took a breath and fired with a soft TOE.. sending a shining blue and gold arrow into the target. "8 points!" the referee announced, to some applause.

The crowds cheered even more as my next shot sailed into the bullseye. "Bullseye! 10 points!" the referee called.

I don't know if it was my sheer excitement or nerves, but my third shot barely hit the outermost rim. "2 points."

Luckily, I pulled myself together and sent my next shot close to the bullseye. "9 points!" The crowd seemed to like that as I prepared to fire again.

My fifth shot landed towards the middle of the target. "6 points!"

Nerves kicked in some moments later, meaning my sixth shot barely hit the target. "1 point."

Come on, Lana...focus. I reminded myself as I prepared to fire again. Calming myself seemed to help, as my seventh shot reached the yellow zone of the target. "4 points!"

I winced as my eighth shot hit the outer rim again. "2 points."

The nervousness very nearly caused my ninth shot to miss. "1 point."

I took a few deep breaths, then fired my last shot. "7 points!" the referee announced as the crowd applauded.

As I made my way back to the rest area, my score appeared on the group leaderboard--50 points, putting me in a solid 4th place. Not bad for your first round... I told myself. Besides, there's still two more rounds after this...
In this vignette, one of Velene's trainees, named Lana, competes in her first competition. (wielding a silver tubow)
